The CITAX project (Construction IT Alliance eXchange) is
an Enterprise Ireland supported, industry led network
project that is examining ways in which technology can
be used to improve the exchange of information in the
construction industry in five key areas: |
|
CITAX Project Management |
Each of the module teams has a module leader who
co-ordinates the workings of each team. This leader sits
on a management group that monitors the overall
direction of the CITAX project and feeds back
information to each of the module teams.
The module leaders are as follows:
Module 1 Design Arthur Hickey (CCH Architects)
Module 2 Electronic Trading Finbarr McCarthy (Sentrio
Technologies)
Module 3 Electronic Tendering Steven Cooke (Bruce
Shaw)
Module 4 Project Collaboration Conor Prenderville
(Michael McNamara)
Module 5 Computer Aided Measurement Michael
ODonnell (Michael McNamara)

CITAX Modules
Overview |
Module 1 Design
This is assessing if an agreed layering convention
streamlines the process of exchange drawings between
issuer and recipient.
Final Report
Module 2 Electronic Trading (eCommerce)
Unlike other sectors such as retail that have been
exchanging supply chain messages using EDI for 20 years,
the construction industry is still heavily reliant on
paper. This module is looking to quantify the benefits
that can be achieved by using an agreed XML standard for
exchanging messages such as orders, delivery dockets and
invoices.
Final Report
Module 3 Electronic Tendering
Traditional tendering generates very significant volumes
of paper, because drawings and other documentation have
to be printed and distributed to all potential bidders
for contracts, and they in turn subdivide and photocopy
the documentation for distribution to subcontractors.
This module was established to look at the practical
implications of using electronic tendering to reduce the
amount of paper, increase efficiency, while complying
with all relevant tendering guidelines.
Final Report
Module 4 Project Collaboration
This module has similar objectives to module 3 above but
it relates to activities after a contract has been
awarded and deals with the paper that is exchanged
during the construction and hand over phases of a
project.
Final Report
Module 5 Computer Aided Measurement
Most Quantity Survey firms currently make measurements
manually from paper drawings. This module was
established to assess the potential for capturing
measurements from drawings in electronic format.
Final Report
Details of the progress of each of the module teams is
outlined from the appropriate menu options on the
website. The project was overseen by the CITAX
Management group which was composed of the leaders of
each of the module teams. Details of their deliberations
are also contained on the website.
The CITAX project started in July 2006 and is due to
complete its work in July 2008. Its final report will be
delivered to the CITA members meeting in September 2008.
